The movie Avatar by James Cameron still holds the box office title this week in the United States with more than $68,300,000 and a total $352,111,000 in 3 weeks and shown in 3,461 theaters.

Avatar is followed by Sherlock Holmes from Warner Bros. with $28,285,000 and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel with $36,600,000.

Avatar is a science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. The epic is set in the year 2154 on Pandora, a fictional Earth-like moon in a distant planetary system. Humans are engaged in mining Pandora's reserves of a precious mineral, while the Na'vi—the sapient and sentient race of humanoids indigenous to the moon—resist the colonists' expansion, which threatens the continued existence of the Na'vi and the Pandoran ecosystem. The film's title refers to the remotely controlled, genetically engineered human-Na'vi bodies used by the film's human characters to interact with the natives. (from Wikipedia)

The story of Avatar perhaps is closely related to what we are doing now on Earth and those which naturally resists the degradation of natural resources particularly being resisted by native inhabitants of certain countries.

Avatar is also available in 3D on selected theaters in the Philippines. The Avatar had so far earned an estimated of $133 million this week for a total of $667.7 million in 21 days. This is the fourth biggest movie earner of all time.
